Experience the African Finfoot swimming past you on the river or to add 6 of the seven kingfisher species, including the half collard kingfisher to your personal birding list. A 600 year old Wild Olive and a 450 yr old Karee line the start to the nature trail. Early morning self drives will reward you with a variety of Fauna and Flora including the Big 5.
On the banks of the Pienaars river, and within a BIG 5 Game Reserve, De Rust campsite is a peaceful, spacious caravan park, shaded by beautiful indigenous trees. Just 35km from Pretoria, this is the perfect place to come to for a peaceful appreciation of untouched bushveld. Part of the Finfoot Conservancy and home to The Big 5, De Rust caravan park also boasts impressive birdlife. To date 280 bird species have been identified, including the rare African Finfoot, the half-collared Kingfisher and the whitebacked night Heron.
Types of accommodation:
There are 18 stands next to the river 7 inner camp stands and 4 bush stands and 1 Island Bush Camp for bigger groups. Most stands can host more than 1 camping unit. Each big stand has its own braai, water and 16 amp power supply, and the security here is excellent, with patrolled game fences and a Security entrance gate. We don't permit any noise in the Campsite

On the N1 35km North of Pretoria take the Hammanskraal/Boekenhoutkloof off ramp turn right over the N1 (do not turn left on the Rust De Winter Road) and follow the dirt road for 1km past the Ndlovu Dinokeng gate and cross the Pienaars river bridge.
