Richtersveld Wilderness Camp, Camping Site near Vioolsdrift

Richtersveld Wilderness Camp

Camp overlooks the banks of the Orange River and offers scenic riverside camping. Enjoy tranquil and peaceful camping.
Description

Richtersveld Wilderness Camp is privately owned and we love having our guests enjoy the same tranquil and peaceful camping as we do. Our 12 rustic campsites are tree-shaded and grassed, and provide an idyllic and peaceful setting for those wishing to enjoy an unhurried camping experience among the natural beauty of the Orange River and Richtersveld surrounds.

Far from the city lights, the Richtersveld night sky heralds a carpet of stars. We like to think of it as 5 Billion Star camping!

Spring flowers are spectacular, rare succulents and the mysterious "Halfmens" and Quiver Trees are to be seen growing on the mountain slopes overlooking the camp.

The sites are kept fairly private. They are separated by river reed fences and each site has its own small food preparation area, water tap, braai place and 220V plugpoint. Hot water ablutions with flush toilets are also available in the camp.

Not much beats lazing in (or on) the Orange River on hot days, watching exquisite sunsets in a such a unique setting and enjoying uninterrupted stargazing. Richtersveld Wilderness Camp offers a unique and restorative break for the whole family.

Directions to site:

The Richtersveld Wilderness Camp is approximately 685km from Cape Town and 1200km from Jhb. On the N7 at Vioolsdrift, just before the border post entrance, turn left (to Kotzeshoop) and follow the gravel road for approximately 22kms to the Richtersveld Wilderness Camp. You do not require a 4x4 to reach our camp, however the gravel road from Vioolsdrift along the river and over the Geelkrans Pass is corrugated and stony in parts so please drive with due care and check that your tyres and spare wheel are in good order beforehand.
You can also reach our camp from Sendelingsdrift (via Eksteenfontein) and down through the scenic Helskloof Pass. This track can be very stony and sandy in parts so we suggest that only vehicles with 4x4 or with sufficient clearance use this route.
