Bankfontein Campsiite is located under shady trees along a creek about 1km from the banks of the dam. It consists of 6 permanent tents. There are a further six stands for campers who want to bring their own tents. There are two bathrooms fully equipped with hot water showers (donkeys) and toilets. The unique mountain shower is quite the experience!
The common cooking area is ideal for a cozy entertainment area and also functions as the "kitchen" for campers. There are lights available at the barbecue area,bathrooms, tents and limited power for power points (solar panels). Fridge and freezer available.
Please take note that special rates apply to groups larger than 10 people. The minimum stay of two nights during holidays is required. Firewood is available for sale at R50/bag.
Bankfontein is a family farm located in the southern Free State between Luckhoff and Philippolis, approximately 3km from the Vanderkloof dam water level. Bankfontein is about 55km from the nearest town and has limited mobile phone reception in some parts of the farm. All electricity is genrated through solar power. The farm offers a unique opportunity for the nature lover to break away and enjoy the beautiful Free State. The farm has fully equipped, private camping facilities that can also be enjoyed as a group while it is also an ideal getaway for families to just take a breather. Several activities are available for the more active people.
Bankfontein campsite has been owned by the Fourie Family for more than 100 years and is currently farmed with white dorpers and Nguni cattle. The land is located in the Nama Karoo Biome with its unique vegetation and wildlife. Besides camping and recreational activities, the area is also used to educate people and student groups about the natural and cultural history of the area.
