Description

Dimalachite is named after the MALACHITE KING FISHER (Aloeda Cristata) that nests along the banks of the Vaal river, surrounded by water, wild life and nature - where the call of the Fish Eagle can be heard from time to time. Accommodation options range from three star lodges, regular self catering chalets, camping sites on the riverbank and a youth hostel. Dimalachite River Lodge welcomes private families and friends, corporate clients, adventure seekers and school groups. Come and relax at the swimming pool, do bird watching, paddle on the river or enjoy the thrill of White water Rafting. Join us for a guided game drive, guided fishing trip, corporate team-building, conferencing or leadership camp. The kids can bring their bicycles, swim, play at the jungle gym, try the trampolines, play mini golf or do paint-ball target shooting. Enjoy your evenings with friends, family or colleagues on the riverbank around a camp fire. Our corporate clients can be sure of our best service, scrumptious meals (in the vintage boma or dining room) and great activities.

Dimalachite River Lodge cater for families, family reunions, caravan clubs, golfing groups, fishermen,  friends, corporate functions and youth groups. The kiosk keeps the normal: Ice, wood, charcoal, cold drinks, ice-cream, beer, tackle, etc. As with other resorts, it is normally not so busy during in season and midweek, but during peak season you can expect more visitors. The small town of Parys which lies in the Vredefort dome is 90 minutes drive from Gauteng and Oliver Tambo international (Johannesburg), 45 minutes from the Vaal triangle and Potchefstroom, 2 hrs form Pretoria and 3hrs from Bloemfontein. Parys is a very popular tourism destination  with a lot of curio shops, cosy dining places etc. The Vaal de Grace golf course developed by Nicky Price on an island is very popular, as is the Parys golf estate. There are a few game farms in the area, and while driving through the Dome Bergland, you are welcome to visit Schoemanati Mampoer farm. Venterskroon is also an interesting place to visit. There are a few good hiking trails in the mountains. The yearly "Crater Cruise" mountain bike event and Parys adventure festival are events not to be missed. One of the best 4x4 trails (Baraka) in South Africa is on our doorstep.

Facilities described:

The camping facilities has a three star grading. There are 60 camp-sites on the riverbank to choose from. with Eskom electricity (three point plugs), and braai facilities. The 28  fishing sites are directly on the water, and a bit more expensive - less shade so please bring a gazebo. The 32 non fishing sites are in the second row, or directly on the river (not suitable for fishing) and they are cheaper. Maximum six people per stand. The more people booked per stand, the cheaper the cost per person. We book specific sites for you when doing a booking, and you only pay for the number of people on the stand. There are three sculleries with warm and cold water for dish washing. The stands are ±10m x 10m and bigger, and we allow up to 6 people per stand. Most of the camp-sites has grass and trees for shade, but the more shade there is, the more difficult it is to grow grass - so some sites does not have grass. There are two ladies (one upgraded - see photos) and two men ablution blocks in Kiewiet camp that, although they are rather old buildings, it is well maintained with staff cleaning on a regular basis. There atre two family ablution blocks in Visarend camp. The tariffs on the web page includes all cost. With electricity cost rising drastically, please help us by not using extra freezers, spotlights, air-cons etc. otherwise we will have no option as to increase our tariffs. Please use hot water sparingly. Thanks! If you want to enjoy the evening around a camp-fire, please bring a suitable burner that will keep the heat from the grass. Burners can also be rented from the kiosk to make a camp-fire. Fires on the ground are strictly prohibited. Please use braai stands for braai or camp fire. All sites next to the river has a lovely view over the river. The non fishing sites in the second row is not directly on the river. We are VERY fortunate that we haven't had any crime related incidents so far. With the right clients, it may well be so in the future!
