Sitrusoewer River Camp is situated on the scenic banks of the Sundays River, only 50km from the Addo National Elephant Park and is surrounded by citrus orchards, making it an ideal getaway for the whole family.

Campsites are large enough to accommodate a normal sized caravan and its tent with one vehicle or similar.
Each site includes a power point and barbecue.

Our story began in 2004 when Johan and Anneke Swart started Sitrusoewer River Camp as a small and private picnic spot on their farm next to the river. While it was reserved for friends and family, it quickly gained local popularity and the demand for a camping and fishing spot in the area lead to it being expanded over time. It now boasts a lapa, 4 cabins, 25 camping sites and 4 ablutions.

Kirkwood is a tiny town located in the Sundays River Valley. It is nestled in between fragrant citrus orchards and sustained by the Sundays River. The farm has been in the family for generations and has grown over time to produce world-class fruit. The farm has quite a long harvesting time, ranging from April to October, and during that time the farm is all in hustle and bustle. Sitrusoewer River Camp evolved with the times to be more comfortable whilst being more tuned in to nature. While we have a generator for loadshedding, it is far from the premises and guests get to enjoy all the luxury without the noise. The cabins are also equipped with a few basic appliances and aircons, because the less you have to pack, the better! We welcome day visitors, long-standing campers and everyone in between!

Camping sites with power points are also available. Communal ablutions and lapa with fridge, microwave, kettle, two plate stove, bar and braai area.

We offer four self-catering cabins each sleeping a family of four (Fish Eagle sleeps a family of 5).

Log jumping pole over river (no diving!), rope swing over river, slide into river. Pool noodles, tubes and boats are available for use.

Directions to site:

From Port Elizabeth / Uitenhage

±70km from Port Elizabeth on the R75 towards Graaff-Reinet, take the second turnoff to Kirkwood. Drive for 10,5km and turn right at the Sitrusoewer River Camp sign onto a dirt road. Follow the signs for the next 2,5km.


From Graaff-Reinet

Drive on the R75, 100km after Jansenville and take the 1st turnoff to Kirkwood to your left. Drive for 10,5km and turn right at the Sitrusoewer River Camp sign onto a dirt road. Follow the signs for the next 2,5km.

From Addo

Straight through town on the main road, 7km towards the direction of Kirkwood Prison/Graaff-Reinet. Take the turnoff on to the left at Sitrusoewer River Camp, follow the signs for the next 2.5km.
